Countdown to EuroAdventure 2k14!

Image
(posted by Emily) As I sat down to think about what to blog today, I realized we are so. close. to our summer adventure in the UK and Europe!  We've made our "To Do before June 25th" list, which includes lots of cleaning and loose ends around the house, and we've started organizing the things we want to be sure to have with us. A few quick tips as we plan ahead for the next big adventure:  1) Make sure you have the exact address and phone number of where you are staying, both written down and stored electronically. When we came back from Paris to London in 2012, I didn't have the address of the apartment we were renting and listed the US Embassy as our residence. The customs guy was not too thrilled with that solution, but let us through after making sure I knew that couldn't happen in the future. I'm planning on making an index card with the address of the boat, to keep in my passport cover, in addition to having it in my contacts on my p...

(posted by Emily) This post is the first in a series I'm going to call WAWP--What Are We Packing. I'm hoping to detail for you what we plan to bring, why we're bringing it, and how we will fit it all! I'll break things down by category, and provide some visual aids as well :) ** To be clear from the start--I know that I am a habitual over-packer. If we have the space, you can bet I will fill it! I'll probably follow up this post with a "what did we actually wear" post once we get back :) ** Beach Time 2 bathing suits per person  1 bathing suit cover up 2 wet suits - we have them, so might as well bring them! Our snorkel cruise provides gear, but there may be days we go out on our own. 2 beach towels Emily's snorkeling gear - easier to pack than to pay to rent! Water shoes/aqua socks - in case things get rocky Books - some actual books as well as a fully loaded Kindle Waterproof digital camera - I've had one for a number of years (th...

(posted by Emily) Sorry, friends. We aren't here today to play one of my favorite icebreakers. Instead, I want to talk a little bit about traveling with electronics abroad :) Can you tell we're ready for summer break already?! When I was doing research about packing phones/iPads/computers, it was hard to find exact information about what we would need. I was looking for blog posts from travelers, talking about what they have used abroad, and was disappointed there wasn't much to read.  In the absence of a great post to cite, I figured I would create my own! Of course, we are just in planning stages at this point--I'll be sure to do a follow up once we head across the pond! You all know what an outlet looks like here in the US:  via Well, just in case you didn't know, outlets are not the same world-wide! Here are a few of our international friends:  United Kingdom European Union Italy In order to deal with all of these different sockets,...
