EuroAdventure Day 29: Foraging

Image
(posted by Emily)   Thursday 24 July Thursday was a very low-key day for us. We spent most of our time drying laundry, packing, watching tv, paying bills, and noodling on the computer. Rick and I had both really hoped to be able to take the boat out one more time, but it was too windy and the water was too choppy. I was pretty bummed that we didn't get another opportunity, but it's not like we won't be back! At some point, I was going a little stir crazy, so we grabbed a bag went foraging for blackberries.  We even had a little friend to keep us company :)  Dobby's mom, Hailey, saw us heading off on a walk and offered that we could take little man along. It was fun to have some puppy time, and Dobby loves  blackberries. We worked on sit with him with the fruit as a reward :) For some reason, dogs in the UK walk on the right. Wrong side of the road for them, too? :) The blackberries were growing wild everywhere--in huge bushes, reaching ...

EuroAdventure Day 10: Man Overboard

(posted by Emily) Saturday 5 July Daily Step Count: 3,500 As you can probably tell from our step count, today was a slower day for us, thought not without excitement! We are a bit lacking in pictures, but you'll soon see why.  Malcolm has been wanting some practice on the boat, and it was time to pump out the blackwater tank again. We headed over toward the pumps this morning, around 11am. Rick pulled the boat out of our mooring and into the marina, which was no small feat due to the wind. We drove over toward the pumps, and noticed another boat pulled up at the mooring there. Dad and Malcolm decided to practice some turning in the open water, and backing the boat back in to our spot.  I was sitting out on the front of the boat, enjoying some tunes on the bluetooth speaker and typing up some blog posts when there was a loud bang and bump (not unusual, especially in the high winds). I'll let Rick describe what happened next: Malcolm was attempting to back ...

EuroAdventure Day 2: Belated birthday

( posted by Emily) Friday 27 June  This morning was an early one for us--ironic, since we had to wait till after 9:30 to get on the train in order to travel during off-peak hours. Rick and I were both up around 4am. Who knows why, but hopefully this jet lag will subside quickly!  After figuring out the best travelcard option for us (an unlimited day travel card for £18 each), we hopped on the train out of Roydon.  It was about 40 minutes to Stratford on National Rail , and once we arrived, we switched over to the Tube to head to Covent Garden . Since we were celebrating Rick's birthday one day late, our food choices for the day were up to him. Lunch was planned for Wild Food Cafe , in Neal's Yard . We arrived before they opened, so spent some time wandering around shopping and sightseeing before heading back.  My Kappa fix for the day!
