(posted by Emily)  This is a fun little project I've been waiting to share. My good friend Angela is having a baby boy in March, and I wanted to put together a fun, homemade gift for her baby shower. I started in on these bad boys in January, but had to wait to gift them before I shared on the blog--didn't want to spoil the surprise!  I started by picking up materials--fabric from Joann's (about an eighth of a yard of each color I wanted) and onesies and socks from WalMart in a variety of sizes.  I chose boy-friendly designs, and started by figuring out which onesie would get which fabric applique. A very special helper was determined to participate in the process: "How does this look, Mom?" I printed each of the designs, to serve as pattern pieces and visuals for each applique, and laid those on top of the onesies along with the fabrics I had picked for the design. (posted by Emily)  As promised in Friday's post , here is a little follow up of the sewing I did over the weekend! It was the perfect weekend to craft and enjoy the sounds of the rainstorms. I made a quick stop at Joann's on Saturday morning, and picked up some fabric, zippers, and thread for the pillow covers. I'm glad I took my time at the store--I had initially ended up at the cut counter with something I wasn't thrilled about but after some additional wanderings with my sham pillowcase in hand, I found exactly what I needed including a great match in the remnants bin! If I am trying to match something we already have, I do my best to bring the original item along.  The rain began as soon as I got home, so I settled in for the afternoon.  I started with the knot pillow that served as my inspiration for this project. (posted by Emily) I have a number of friends who blog, and am continually inspired by the things they post. Tara is a healthy eater staying fit, Alex shares tidbits of fun and inspiration, and who doesn't love some Young House Love (not my friends, per say, but still awesome)! After seeing Alex's post this morning, I started to do a little internet noodling and stumbled upon a fun idea for t hrow pillows , hacked from Anthropologie .  via After a little bit of research on how to install a zipper , I think I am going to tackle a few pillows tonight after school. There is something very therapeutic about heading out to Joann's, picking out fabric, and sitting down the sewing machine.
