Weekend in Cancun: Logistics and Lodging

Image
(posted by Emily) I am trying something a little different with our latest vacation updates. Since our focus this spring break was rest and relaxation, I opted not to post every day and just enjoy the trip while we were on it. So, we are breaking things up a little differently this time! Let me know what you think! This year, Rick and I are not fortunate enough to have the same spring break, but knew we still wanted to take a trip together. Instead of our typical week-long adventure, we planned a long weekend (Friday to Tuesday) in Cancun! We had such a great time at the Hyatt Ziva over Labor Day Weekend , we decided to give Hyatt's Cancun property, the Hyatt Zilara , a chance. Now it's time for a little logistics and lodging breakdown! How We Got There: We flew Southwest from LAX to Cancun, with a connection through Austin on the way there. Our trip home was two legs as well, with a stop in Denver. Rick and I are lucky enough to have a Southwest Companion Pass ...

Cabo Weekend: Celebraciones de cumpleaños

(posted by Emily)  28 August 2014 Our flight to Cabo San Lucas was a quick one--only 2 hours and 15 minutes on Southwest. Flights to Mexico are new for Southwest, so it was amusing to hear the flight attendants painstakingly walk passengers through the Mexican customs forms. I kept my headphones in and just followed the directions :)  Most hotels will organize a van pickup for you when you get in to the airport. The company we traveled with was called TransCabo , and was one of the most common. Luckily for us, our hotel was one of the first stops after leaving the airport. If you had to travel further into the city, it could take up to two hours to reach your hotel. When we exited the airport, the first thing we noticed was an outdoor bar, getting everyone ready to party.  Tourist alert: on the way from customs to the pickup, there were a number of travel desks that we were shuttled to, where agents attempted to sell us excursion packages, rides, et...

Cabo Weekend: ¡México allá vamos!

(posted by Emily) All our bags are packed and we're ready to go! It's time to head to Mexico! We are flying out of Orange County today, on the only international flight they offer.  We hope to post everyday on this trip, and look forward to experiencing Baja California together for the first time. Can't wait for the adventures this trip will bring!  ¡Adiós por ahora!  --E y R

Here we go!

(posted by Emily)  After a few days of furious packing and errand running, the adventure has begun! We are currently waiting in Vegas for the Air Canada desk to open.  It's like a ghost town in here. In order to book our flights to London using miles, we had to depart from LAS instead of LA. That meant a quick trip on Southwest this morning, picking up bags, and coming over to the international terminal to check in. I think we might be a little early.... Even though arriving over three hours early isn't ideal, the trip on Southwest was worth it because of our Companion Pass --basically, the ability to buy one flight and have a second person fly free! We just earned that status last week, and were able to rebook our flights and get some points back! Thanks, Southwest!  Here's hoping the desk opens soon, and we can spend some time in the United club! Rick is catching some zzz and I've been catching up on FB and IG before our phones go on airpl...
