28 June 2016 San Jose and Monteverde, Costa Rica Hola, amigos y familia! We are traveling again, which means more blogging :) I'm going to keep it simple this time, but want to make sure we have a record of this summer's adventures to South America. And, if I really have my act together (and it doesn't annoy Rick to have me constantly asking), I'll throw in some details about our travel logistics, too :) Rick has been in Costa Rica since June 22nd--he wasn't about to wait around for me at home while I was at Kappa conventin, so he came down for surf camp for a few days. Sounds like he had a blast! I flew to San Jose on Monday the 27th. The surf camp people brought Rick back up to San Jose, and he was waiting for me at a Hampton Inn by the airport. March 2016  Reykjavik, Iceland 19, 259 steps Hello from Iceland! We are safely in Reykjavik, after a long day and a half of traveling.  This trip was pieced together (very expertly) by Rick, maximizing the airline miles we had available. For our trip over here, we flew United from LAX to Newark, then Newark to London. The first flight to EWR was easy--lots of movies to watch on the in-flight entertainment systems. We had a fairly tight connection (45 minutes) and were delayed getting to Newark, but managed to get on our flight to Heathrow in plenty of time.  After veggie curry and a few more movies, I slept for a few hours en route to London (Rick is not so good at sleeping on planes). We were really excited to be on United, because the United Club at Heathrow is the best one in the world--great food and drinks, beautiful design. 30 December 2015 Amsterdam, The Netherlands Step Count: 22,946 (9.61 miles)  We were up early Wednesday morning to head to Amsterdam. Shout out to the Helsinki airport for their efficiency and ingenuity--we tagged our own bags, scanned them in, and avoided traveling families with the addition of a "Kids Gate" at security. Smart, smart, smart! The flight went by quickly (I slept the whole way), and we hopped on the train to Amsterdam Centraal station. From there, we walked to our hotel, taking in some of the sights as we dragged our bags along the narrow streets.  Amsterdam is a canal city--lots of hustle and bustle outside the main station very narrow streets here, with tall, skinny houses! We stayed at the Intercontinental Amsterdam, which is a pretty posh spot. Lots of celebrities stay here when in the city.  complimentary bubbly at check in our room--it was huge, even by American standards! great view, right over the water...
