FriDIY: Fence Post Planter Update

Image
(posted by Emily) In an attempt to share small updates to our home and our lives, I am going to try to share one DIY project every Friday. It will also keep me crafting, building, planting, and organizing, which is always good for my sanity! :)  Many of you saw our original fence post planter post back in March. I detailed how we got the planter hung on the side of the house and how we planned to get some dangling plants in there soon.  Well, the plants we put in have come and gone. Things were looking good in April , but watering the planter can be a bit challenging, and I was not in the habit of getting outside to water as regularly as we needed to. After our time away this summer, we definitely knew we wanted to rethink what was planted in there.  For my birthday this year, my mom wanted to get me something practical and long lasting. We have talked about the fence post planter on a number of occasions, and she decided she wanted to help me purchase...

Graduation Weekend: Atlanta Botanical Garden

Image
(posted by Emily) How was your Memorial Day weekend? We spent ours in Atlanta, celebrating my cousin Lindsey's high school graduation. We didn't make it in time for the actual ceremony, but are incredibly proud of her and can't wait to watch her adventures at Auburn begin in the fall. It is always great to see our family in Atlanta, and this was a fun trip for us--we stayed a bit longer than normal and had a chance to explore some new sights around town. Lindsey's graduation party wasn't until Sunday, so we spent Saturday afternoon at the Atlanta Botanical Garden . As avid garden and flower lovers, it was a natural (no pun intended) choice for us to go check things out. sculptural interpretations of Giuseppe Arcimboldo 's Four Seasons - spring winter fall summer orchids in the conservatory wall of orchids The visit was spurred by my dad's interest in the Imaginary Worlds displays--l...

(posted by Emily) We've slowly been adjusting to life at home, which had meant lots of sleep and relaxing. Thank goodness we planned a few buffer days after the trip!  The laundry is done, and we've had time to do some updates in the backyard, too. We planted some pepper plants (jalepeƱo), cucumber, and a new kale plants, to spread out our crop. We caged all 9 of our tomato plants, too! On Saturday, we hung a new strand of bulb lights. Loving our outdoor seating area at night!  Sunday, Rick suggested we pick up some flowers for a small side bed near our back door out of the kitchen. Didn't have to ask me twice! We tried to grow raspberries there last year to no avail. This year, we added in a camellia bush, azaleas, honeysuckle, clivia, and some celosia.  before the haul after! One last update for you--our rose bush is loving life! Things are doing well in the fence post planter, too :)  Hope you had a great ...
