LAX to TSA to DSP

 Well, we're breaking our radio silence.....it's time for a trip! Sorry it's been so quiet on the blog front lately. October is always crazy for teachers and before we even realized it, Thanksgiving is here!

 The Barclays are heading to Bali for the week--we leave late tonight and will arrive Saturday. Not a great time change when going, but we'll make it up when we get back! 

We'll be spending 7 nights in Ubud, exploring and eating, and sharing our experiences! Can't wait to see a new part of the world!

(posted by Emily) 2 July 2015 Crete, Greece (steps and miles unknown!) On Thursday morning, we decide to have a leisurely morning. We made a simple breakfast of eggs, toast, strawberry jam, coffee, and white mountain tea (made from fresh herbs that grow in the area). We decided to walk down the road a bit to visit the animals we had seen along the way--a mama and her pup and the goats! Looking back at the home we are staying in On Wednesday,  Rick had researched a local winery in the area and we booked a tour and light lunch for noon. We realized Thursday morning that the wine we had bought the night before was actually from that winery! The Manousakis Winery is just one town over from where we are staying, so it was an easy trip. EuroAdventure15: Welcome to Crete

(posted by Emily) 1 July 2015 Crete, Greece about 5,000 steps (~2 miles walked) After a sleepless night in the Athens airport, we were on the first flight to Crete. We were on Aegean again, and from takeoff to stepping foot in the airport in Chania, it only took about an hour!              We are renting a car in Crete, because of our plan to stay at an Airbnb property up in the hills. Because I don't want to jinx anything or bring about bad karma, I'll just leave this pro tip here for you, and you can infer what you want :) I can explain more later!  Jetsetting ProTip #1: If you intend to rent a car on an international vacation, you'll want to plan to bring your driver's license.  (Shout out to Edith for being the best housesitter and hero of the day!) EuroAdventure Day 20: All around Roma

(posted by Emily) Tuesday 15 July Daily Step Count: 29,286 Tuesday was one of the first days that we truly allowed ourselves to sleep in. I closed the blackout shutters in our room, and set an alarm for 9:45, assuming we'd be up before then easily. Welp, we definitely slept until the alarm and hit snooze a few times :) I think we needed the sleep! Our plan for the day was to check out the assorted Roman sites we could walk to from our hotel--which was almost everything! With no real itinerary, we decided to get breakfast at Campo di Fiori , a piazza down the street from our hotel with a morning market. It was fascinating to see the goods sold there, like dried pasta, olive oils and balsamic vinegar, limoncello and other liquors, sun dried tomatoes, and tons of fresh produce.
